The National Fish Hatchery has a mechanical process for degassing the water from the fish tanks through a vacuum pump system and a 5000 gallon concrete holding tank. Over the years, the holding tank had developed various leaks.
The engineering plan was to enclose the entire tank with a waterproof membrane and encapsulate surround. The challenge would be to brace and support an elaborate concrete forming system to withstand the pressure of concrete with just a one sided form on this 12' x 18" x 12' high tank.
Membrane was applied, forms were erected, and temporary structural steel bracing was welded in place around the form work to withstand the pressure during the casting process.
To further complicate the process, all pumps and degassing equipment had to be relocated to allow for the construction process, while still maintaining the degassing operations, and the holding tank full of water.
This was the fourth contract for the National Fish Hatchery in the last three years. Industrial Construction Services completed this project for under $30,000.00.
